LSEV Low Speed Electric Vehicles

Just because they are slow, doesn't make them less important.

When it comes to EV's, most people first think of Tesla. Before Tesla made the Model S, there was a small niche of low-speed electric vehicles, also known as city cars. These cars were some of the first EV's to hit the road. They pre-date Coda, and the Tesla Model S.

While at Vantage Vehicle / MPAK Motors, it was my responsibility to develop these small EV's into a useable all-purpose vehicle. During my development, I was able to create a small hybrid variant as well.

As the Senior Automotive Engineer, I mentored two mechanical engineers and several technicians. I taught classes based on the J1772 standard for charging lithium battery safety and safe practices as well. When the owner decided to build a full-size EV for customers in the US and China market, I led the design, and development of the entire vehicle. This included, the homologation of the vehicle, crash test reinforcement design and implementation of battery protection as well. This vehicle ultimately went on to beat the Nissan Leaf in range and the project was taken over by the Chinese government.
